Last week I decided to make a self-tie bow tie. It had been a while since my last sewing endeavor, and this project sounded like a good place to pick back up. Similar to the necktie-making process, I combined information from a few blogs, bought some materials, and got to it.
A lot of the bow tie how-to blogs I came across were for a simple, non-adjustable tie (just one long piece). I can see how that would make sense if you are making one for yourself to fit only your neck, but what if I wanted to make some for other people? Peoples' necks are different sizes, dawg. So, I purchased some 3/4" metal slides and adjusted the pattern I downloaded to create the adjustable neck feature.
Perhaps it's because I'm a little more comfortable with a sewing machine now, or the fact that it's my first sewing project in a couple of months, but this process seemed easier than making a standard necktie and was a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll be making more soon!
