In June the dodgeball team I play on, Adrenaline Rush, took home gold in the third and final tournament of the Elite South series, giving us a deciding overall 1st place finish in the division this season. This means 1) we get South Division championship rings and 2) we automatically qualify for the playoff bracket in the Elite Dodgeball National Championship in Las Vegas.
To clarify the structure of the Las Vegas tournament, here's what you need to know.
Needless to say I'm incredibly excited. Dodgeball not only keeps me active, it satisfies my innate desire to be a part of a team. Our team has been together for 7 years and I've known most of the guys longer than that, so it's awesome participating in a team sport with some of my best friends.
We try to get new uniforms each year we have a big national tournament. This year we wanted to change up our look completely. Since we started competing in 2008, our color scheme has consisted of red, black, white, and grey. It's time for change. One of my graphic designer friends from college, Kim Fuller, said she wanted to take a crack at giving us a new logo and designing uniforms for us. I was ecstatic and couldn't wait to see what she would come up with. The results are, in my opinion, phenomenal. Take a look and decide for yourself!
To clarify the structure of the Las Vegas tournament, here's what you need to know.
- The Elite Dodgeball National Championship in Las Vegas is a two-day tournament starting on August 29. Day 1 is round robin, day 2 is the playoff bracket.
- The teams that placed in the top 4 of their respective divisions this season automatically qualify for the playoff bracket on day 2. There are four divisions, so that's 16 teams taking 16 out of the 20 available playoff slots.
- The remaining 4 playoff slots will be determined on day 1 of Vegas during the round robin pool in which any and all teams from around the country are invited to come compete for. This means all of us (yes, even the teams that have already qualified) will play each other in a best of 3 series to determine the seeding for the playoff bracket based each teams' final record for the day. The top 4 teams that didn't automatically qualify will take the final 4 spots in the playoff bracket happening on day 2.

Thanks again, Kim! I can't wait to compete in these bad boys. Two more weeks till day 1 of Vegas, and I'm already getting pre-tournament jitters.
